April was the first full month that quarantines were broadly enacted across the globe. It wasthought that perhaps there would be fewer users in April 2020 compared to years past, however comparing April 2019 to April 2020, users increased 38% and sessions increased 25%. Evidently, many of us are fortunate to have good internet connections at home. Below are maps comparing locations (cities) of InsideWood users during a 30-day period in 2019 vs. that same period in 2020. The larger the circle, the more users in that city.

Thanks to Shirley Rodgers and the IT staff of the library, there is a controlled access interface for editing and adding content to InsideWood. By the end of this year, we hope to add modern softwoods/conifers to InsideWood. Please - if you have noticed any errors or know of papers with descriptions of fossil or modern day woods not in InsideWood, please write toElisabeth Wheeler (elisabeth_wheeler@ncsu.edu). If you have any images, especially of conifers, that you hold copyright to Elisabeth and are willing to share on InsideWood, please send. Contributions are acknowledged by individual and institution.
